In my opinion, good visitor statistics are essential for doing any kind of traffic building exercises on the web. I took on a client recently that was hosting their website with a small local company that didnt provide any decent log analyzing software with the hosting, but the client was unwilling to move hosts as the hosting company provided technical support as well as the hosting.
So I asked around and Hitslink was recommended as a web stats solution that does not need access to the server or the log files.
You embed a piece of javascript in to each page and let the software do its job.
The information that you get from these guys is incredible. It is at least as goog as the info I get from other software such as Matrix Stats and Urchin, if not better!
The only down side is that the price goes up as the site gets busier, but if you can pass this info on to the client, then great! I'll be recommending that clients go with this software in future. I hope this is helpful!
