Dangermouse vs EMI
After reading a great piece in the NME about DJ Dangermouse's Jay-Z remix Album, I did a bit of digging and found these sites which talk about banned music in general and information on how to get a hold of a copy of the now infamous 'Grey Album'.
Grey Tuesday - A day of protest organised in reaction to the cease and desist order given by EMI to DJ Dangermouse for his 'Grey Album'.
Downhill Battle - From their web site: "Downhill Battle is a music activism project that's working to bring positive change to the music industry. The discussion of technology and the future of music has recently been dominated by the major record labels and the RIAA, and we're working to introduce a public voice to the debate. Instead of asking 'what's good for major label CEOs and profit forecasts?' we want to ask 'what's good for music, musicians, and fans?' Above all, we think there is an incredible opportunity over the next few years to redefine the music industry by ending the monopoly of the five major labels."
Downhill Battle include this great summary of reasons to get rid of the major record labels.
On top of all the politics of the issue, the fact that the 'Grey Album' is so damn good is reason alone to sit up and listen to what is going on. The NME review gave it 10/10 which is a rare accolade indeed. You can find out more about the artist - DJ Dangermouse - at his own site at www.djdangermouse.com, where he also has a great track to download from his new album.
