Squashed Balloons
I apologise if you’ve seen this work before but I realised that I haven’t blogged about it so here goes…
The photograph above was taken by Simon Mills at the Catalyst Arts Members’ Show in February 2011. It shows the top half of the ‘casting machine’ suspended by fishing line from the ceiling to give a weightless appearance. I found it interesting to create a separate installed artwork from something that I had previously been using as a functional tool.
I use the support frame to help cast the inside of balloons that I squashed with the corner rods set at various lengths. The photograph below is of some of the forms that I have cast from the ‘machine’.
